A little background on Umm Ali Dessert:

Umm Ali is a traditional Egyptian dessert dating back 700 years, and it is the national dessert of Egypt. It consists of many different components. The name “Umm Ali” dates back to the Ayyubid era in Egypt.

Named after the wife of the ruler of the Ayyubid Empire in Egypt who asked her chefs to create the most delicious dessert they could make and distribute throughout the country; the chosen recipe became a national dish of Egypt.

Ingredients:

  • one bag of toast bread
  • 100 g milk cream
  • 40 g whipping cream
  • Cup crushed nuts, grated coconut, and raisins (quantity as desired)
  • Liter of milk (boiled and sweetened with sugar (sugar to taste))
  • butter

Steps:

1- We bring the toast slices and grease from the top with butter stacked in a tray and placed in the oven on the middle rack at a temperature of 150-160 C until completely roasted, taking into account not to burn, after roasting leave the toast slices to cool and after cooling can be used directly or can be covered and used at any other time.

2- In a bowl or bowl, put the whipping cream and add the milk gradually with the beater hand wire or electric beater until the consistency of the cream becomes swollen and liquid relatively. The cream is tasted and if it needs sugar (the amount of sugar as desired) add the ground sugar gradually with whisking until it reaches the required sugar degree.

3- Rosted toast slices are placed in a pottery casserole, and in the absence of pottery, ceramic or Pyrex casseroles or a regular tray of an appropriate size can be used.

4- Add crushed nuts with grated coconut and raisins to the toast in the preferred amount.

5- Pour the whipping cream over the toast and stir the casserole lightly to distribute the cream well and leave for 10 minutes until the toast absorbs the whipping cream.

6- Put the cream on the face of the tray and then light the grill in the oven from the top on medium heat and place tray Umm Ali on the middle shelf under the grill and leave until it takes a golden color from the face.

7- Take the tray out of the oven and leave to cool well, then cover and put in the refrigerator and serve very cold.
